Wine tasting in Southern Romania
You don’t have to book a luxury vacation for wine tasting on the already famous vineyards in Loire Valley, Burgundy, Bordeaux or Tuscany to enjoy a fine wine. Everybody’s heard about them so why not try something new, some authentic Romanian wines on a lower budget. Romanian wines have been appreciated at won awards at different international wine competitions but they’re not as famous as the ones from the better known wine regions. So why don’t you give it a try and organize a wine tasting tour in one of Dragasani’s wine region many vineyards? Many of them offer the full wine tasting experience, where you can spend the night on their vineyard and you’ll have the day for a traditional Romanian meal and plenty of wine tasting.
We couldn’t write about traveling and not stop for a bit to where we grew up. We chose to spend the 1 st of June day at Dobrusa Villa, at AVINCIS, Mr. Valeriu Stoica’s vineyard in Dragasani. Now, we’re not much of wine drinkers, although we grew up in a pretty famous wine region. That’s because of our grandfather, who made us drink our first glass of wine when we were very little because, as he put it ‘it’s good for your health’. I guess we were a bit traumatized after that and now we’re trying to catch up and learn more about all kinds of wines.
Avincis is the symbol of the rebirth of Romanian wines, turning back to its origins, but also a look into modern era. You can feel this by walking around the domain. On one hand you have the old family’s manor, completely rehabilitated and on the other hand you have the modern apartments in buildings with a futuristic architecture. This adventure started for Cristina Stoica and her husband Valeriu in 2007 when they discovered a new passion, coming back home in Dragasani.
This year marked the 5th year anniversary of Avincis winery and the owners organized a picnic for all wine lovers. You could taste many of their famous wines, we visited the wine cellar, the vineyard and the manor. There was live music by Alex Poro Band and at the end a painting exhibition.
