Top 5 ski destinations
Winter is already here and ski destinations are what people are looking for. We don’t ski, but we have friends that can barely wait for the winter season to go skiing so we thought about it and made a top with the best 5 ski resorts in Europe.
Kitzbühel, Austria. Kitzbühel town in Tirol region in Austria hosts one of the best ski slopes in the Alps. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 was named the best ski resort in the world. With 179 km of slopes and 54 cable cars, you won’t have time to get bored.
Zermatt, Switzerland. It’s impossible to not find a ski destination in Switzerland. In Zermatt you’ll find the highest mountain top in Switzerland and the highest ski-tow systems in the world. You won’t be able to go by car though, the last km you’ll ride by train. The skiers are drawn to this place because of the interconnection between the slopes, two of them going over the border to Italy. Zermatt is in the South of the country, in Valais canton.
Chamonix, France. Situated in the South-East of France, in the Rhone Alps of the Mont Blanc. It’s believed to be the best ski resort in France and Switzerland’s Geneva airport is just an hour away. There are 11 slopes for everyone, from families with children to more dangerous ones for those who love adrenaline. This is the place where the first Winter Olympics were held, so it has a lot to offer.
Bansko, Bulgaria. We know that a lot of Romanians and other Easter-Europeans prefer to go to Bulgaria to ski, so we had to put it on our list. Bansko is at 160 km from its capital Sofia, on the North-Eastern part of Mount Pirin. The ski slopes are situated in two main centers: Chalin Valog (1.100 – 1.600 m) and Shiligarnika (1.700 – 2.500 m).
Transalpina Ski Resort, Romania. Since we’re from Romania, we had to have one ski destination on our list. Even though our ski slopes are as long as the ones in France or Switzerland, there are plenty of tourists that come here. Poiana Brasov is probably the most famous and popular destination, but we wanted to include a new one, Transalpina from Valcea County. It opened in 2012 and it has the most breathtaking view, with Vidra lake close by. You’ll ride a cable car for 2.9 km up to 1800 m, then a ski-tow up to 2000 m on Bora peak.
