Italian adventure. Varese
Varese. Probably not that many people herd about it. It’s a city situated in the NV of Italy, 55 km from Milan. The city seems small but has in fact 885000 inhabitants and it’s famous for Sacro Monte, a pilgrimage place, included in UNESCO.
But you’re probably wondering why we’re telling you about Varese? It’s the city we stayed for a few days on our trip, visisting a childhood friend. For us, it’s the perfect place to go on one-day trips. Everytime we had visited her we went by train or by car to Milan, Bergano, Como, Brescia, Piacenza, Verona, Turin, Pisa and even to Lugano in Switzerland because Varese is close to the Swiss border.
The city has a nice walking center, with Piazza Monte Grappa where in the evening everybody goes out and hangs at the terraces around there, even by the fountains in the Piazza. Shopping lovers won’t be disappointed either because on the streets in the center you can find stores for everybody, from Zara and OVS to Gucci an Hermes.
A sight that can’t be missed is the Estense Palace and Gardens (1768-1780)
Varese Lake is an ideal place for relaxing.
Outside the city there’s a Lindt factory outlet where chocolate lovers can buy all the candies and chocolate they want at a small price.
