Verona, the colorful street of Bucharest
Since Mother Nature seems to have her seasons mixed up and it doesn’t look like it’s winter outside, we decided to make the most of these sunny days and went for a walk on the streets of Bucharest. Arthur Verona Street that connects Magheru Boulevard with Gradican Icoanei is one of our favorites streets in the city. It’s the most colorful place that we know in Bucharest, it’s right in the center of the city and you can’t walk by this wall and not take at least one photo. The wall is painted every year during Street Delivery event and each year you’ll see a different graffiti. The artists that paint the walls say that what they’re doing is called urban art.
The Street Delivery mission is to reinvent and reinforce the structural role that the public space plays in the inhabitants’ lives by converting the urban scenery in a space that looks alive. Street Delivery militates for a city that brings joy to its inhabitants, a city that gives the pedestrians the same importance as the other traffic participants. That’s why, for 3 days, Arthur Verona Street is closed for cars and opens for people.
This year’s piece proposes a contrast between an elaborate, classic painting that is meant to impress and draw attention on the importance of nature and vegetation – and an uncontrolled splash that symbolizes the violent and irreversible effect that humans have on nature.
